IDENTIFYING PURPOSES
CONCEPT: The purpose for which information is collected must be identified
Salumatics provides the following activities that result in access to health records/data:
- Hosting of electronic patient record systems;
- Providing disaster recovery and archival backup services;
- Conversion of paper based health records into indexed electronic images suitable for upload into electronic patient record systems;
- Coding and abstracting of health records for submission to the Canadian Institute for Health Information (CIHI); and
- Salumatics staff access health information remotely are bound to protect patient/client privacy through the Salumatics Privacy Code.
- The obligation for identifying the purposes for which personal information is collected at or before the time the information is collected belongs to the hospital. Hospitals must ensure that they are acting appropriately and in accordance with the relevant law.
- Salumatics does not directly collect personal health information from patients.
